Vintage USA PRS Custom 24 1993- Maryland Golden Era- Original Case-
Brighton, East Sussex
£2,800
Description
For sale is my Vintage Amber "10 Top" 1993 PRS Custom 24 in beautiful, almost original condition. This is an early Maryland‑built Core model, built during PRS’s golden era — when every instrument was hand‑crafted with superb attention to detail.
This is the classic colour combination for early Prs', Amber front & Red back.
Lovely Rosewood board, old school MOP birds, small logo headstock, small heel joint, Gen 1 Trem & Phase 1 Locking Tuners, it is a classic!
In fantastic condition for its age with no major issues. just a bit of tarnishing and play wear. Frets are all good. Finish is lovely with just the odd bit of "spotting" here and there and the odd tint ding around the edges. It would be very hard to find a nicer one from this era at this price! Also the Original case is looking a bit worn and 1 latch is broken, but it still functions in protecting the guitar.
The early 90's Custom 24's delivers everything PRS was becoming famous for: perfect playability, a fast neck, rich tonal range, and outstanding build quality.
It comes with its original PRS hard case and strap locks that actually fit into the body.
The only modification is what every player was doing to these in the 90's, replacing the awful 5 way Rotary Switch with the more player friendly 3 way toggle, something PRS decided to do not long after on all their guitars.
Although the 5 way switch was a novel idea. it was a nightmare to use live!
If you wanted to go from position 1 straight to 5 or vice versa, you needed to pass through all the other positions first and trying to land on one of the in-between settings was a nightmare in the middle of a song!
A massive improvement over the original layout, but an easy fix if wanted to change back as the switches are available, 3rd party produced ones are a reasonable price.
A 1993 PRS Custom 24 is a highly sought-after vintage instrument marking a transitional era, shifting from Brazilian to Indian rosewood fretboards and moving away from the "sweet switch" toward a standard 3-knob configuration (volume, tone, 5-way rotary). These guitars often feature HFS/Vintage Bass pickups, small script logos, and Phase I locking tuners.
Key Features and Specifications of a 1993 PRS Custom 24:
Electronics: The 5-way rotary selector replaced the earlier sweet switch, offering various humbucker and single-coil combinations.
Pickups: Transitioned to HFS (Hot Fat Screams) treble and Vintage Bass pickups, providing a high-output, versatile sound.
Neck & Fretboard: Typically features a mahogany neck with an Indian rosewood fretboard. Neck profiles are often "Wide Thin" or "Wide Fat".
Construction: Mahogany body with a carved maple top (often found as a 10-Top).
Hardware: One-piece bridge/tremolo and Phase I winged locking tuners.
Bridge: PRS patented tremolo system is standard, designed for stability.
1993 is considered a "turn-of-the-era" year for PRS, combining classic, early-style specifications with the modern features that defined the brand's growth in the mid-90s.

I am not a guitar Dealer or a business, just an honest collector who has way too many guitars!
Trades or PX always a possibility and most of my guitars are up on various platforms, so if you want it, bid early, otherwise it may sell elsewhere before the auction ends!
Collection always welcome. I am easy to get to from the main route down from London to Brighton.
