Description:

A genuine 1972 Spanish classical guitar, believed to be a Taurus Model 40, retailed through Musical Emporium, I. Llobet y Cía., Ramblas 129, Barcelona.

These guitars originate from the Barcelona workshop tradition of the 1960s–70s, where instruments were built in cooperative environments by skilled craftsmen working in the Spanish style. Taurus guitars from this period are appreciated as honest, great-sounding player instruments.

Provenance:

Original retailer’s label for I. Llobet, Barcelona (Las Ramblas) – placing this guitar firmly within the historic Spanish guitar-making scene of the period.

The guitar has a lovely mellow full sound and is very easy to play. This is a guitar for a guitarist who understands exactly what this guitar is and its’ history. Possibly hand built by or under the supervision of the great craftsman Antonio Picado in the venerated Taurus cooperative, in Barcelona,

Juan Estruh founded the Taurus guitar cooperative, where many of the greatest luthiers in Barcelona worked together, many artists have put their trust in the guitars made in Taurus workshop.

It has been said that the Taurus workshop in Barcelona made "Estudio" models for Ramirez. Also of particular interest is that Antonio Picado Berga, a guitar maker in Barcelona actually worked in the Taurus workshop from 1968 to 1982 i.e. during the time this Model 40 was made.

Tone & Playing Character:

The interior shows traditional Spanish fan bracing, consistent with guitars from the Barcelona workshop tradition of this period.

All internal bracing appears intact and original, with no visible signs of repair or alteration.

The original retailer’s label for I. Llobet, Barcelona is still present inside the body.

There is some light dust and natural ageing internally, as expected for a guitar of this age, but overall it presents as an unmodified and honest vintage instrument.

Condition:

Good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use.
There are surface marks and play wear to the top, along with cosmetic wear to the headstock finish.
Overall the guitar appears structurally sound and complete.
