Giannini AWN C1 (7/8 size nylon guitar) requires attention
Ealing Broadway, London
£195
Description
Still available.
She's a beauty, isn't she?
Please note that this guitar has structural damage to the top that needs to be
addressed by a good luthier or guitar tech. Specifically, there is a wood-deep
crack from the sound hole to the bridge, following through from the bridge to
the bow edge. The bridge itself is secure. I was given this guitar by an uncle
who had stored this in his attic for approx 20 years without proper humidification,
hence causing the split/crack. Unfortunate, as it is a high quality instrument
(my uncle purchased it for approx £900 in the late-80s).
A rare and beautiful Giannini nylon string guitar built in Brazil in the 1970s.
The 1970s are considered a "special period" for Giannini, featuring work from
master luthiers like Joao Batista. This model - AWN C1 - is recognised as a
high-quality, professional-level instrument from that era.
The top is solid cedar. The back and sides are laminate Brazilian Jacaranda
(harvesting banned since 1976). Quality robust tuning machine heads. The
neck is straight with no warping. There is no bellying on the top.
Beautiful grain all around. Note that the slightly exaggerated headstock is a
feature of high-end classical guitars. The neck feels very comfortable, and the
shorter scale (642 mm) makes it even better for those with smaller hands.
Considering it's over 50 years old, note that the guitar has some minor dings
and scratches (review photos).
Specs:
String length 642 mm
Nut width 50 mm
Top Solid Spruce
Back/sides Brazilian Rosewood
Bracing Fan
Mahogany neck
Natural bone nut and saddle
Rosewood fingerboard
Rosewood bridge
The guitar includes a sturdy, good quality hardshell case.
