Description

Bit of a weird one this ... it's the bones of a circa 1960s/1970s Di Giorgio 'Estudiante' Classical guitar - possibly a model 18. Made in Brazil.

The soundhole label is missing so there is no way of identifying it other than cross referencing it on the internet and the simple double ring soundhole rosette leads me to believe it's an estudiante model such as this one here -

This guitar has had some modifications so please read carefully. It is only my opinion and I did not do the work to this guitar so please make of it what you will...

- The original finish has been removed from more or less all of the guitar ( possibly not the sides or headstock facsia) leaving a Matte feel throughout.
- The back of the body has either been completely replaced or more likely covered over with the new back you see - it looks like Oak to me and appears solid , it's slightly thicker than a standard veneer and it sits above the back edge binding which this , alongside looking inside the guitar, leads me to think it's been affixed on top of the original back of the guitar ( i have no idea why).
- The soundhole label is missing.
- The bridge appears to have been replaced.
- The area between the nut and carved headstock fascia has been modified.
- The tuners are modern replacements.
- A past owner has 'penned' in with biro or marker pen an area between the soundhole rosette rings. This has indented the surface in this area.
- The back of the neck has a matte feel.
- There are surface marks, wear and signs of use throughout.
- The strings are used but in reasonable condition.

On the positive it's actually a really nice sounding guitar, I have a few good sounding classicals I have collected over the years and it sounded on a par with these.

It plays well with a reasonable classical action of around 4mm at the 12th but doesn't feel high and I found it pleasant and easy to play and there is saddle showing should you wish to drop the action a little.

Please check the pics and read the above , it is my opinion only. It could be a nice project for someone to restore or useable as is.

No case, collection BS6.
