Experienced, supportive teaching for children and adults
Would you or your child like to learn the classical guitar with an experienced teacher in a relaxed, friendly and encouraging environment?
Steve is a PVG-registered classical guitar teacher with more than 25 years’ teaching experience. Based in Galashiels, he offers individual online lessons for adults and young people aged nine and over.
Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to the guitar after a break or hoping to progress through graded examinations, lessons are carefully tailored to suit your ability, musical interests and personal goals. Steve combines established classical guitar techniques with a relaxed but progressive approach, helping each student develop at a comfortable and rewarding pace.
Supportive tuition for different learning styles
Steve also has experience of working with neurodivergent learners and understands that every student processes information and develops skills differently. Lessons can be adapted to suit a range of learning styles, with clear explanations, patient guidance and a flexible pace. The aim is to help every student build confidence, recognise their progress and enjoy making music without unnecessary pressure.
Why learn classical guitar?
A classical approach provides a strong and versatile musical foundation. Rather than relying solely on guitar tablature, students learn to read standard musical notation and develop an understanding of rhythm, technique and musical theory.
These skills can make it considerably easier to:
• Progress to other musical instruments
• Learn chords and accompaniment styles
• Explore folk, popular and other forms of guitar music
• Develop good technique and avoid unhelpful playing habits
• Work towards recognised graded examinations
Steve has maintained a 100% ABRSM examination pass rate, his students having achieved results up to Grade 8 with Distinction.
