Description

Volunteer with Girlguiding Scotland

Help out in your area and give girls a space to discover their potential. Whether you want to volunteer with girls directly or help from behind the scenes; you can be involved flexibly in a way that works for you.
Are you enthusiastic about giving girls opportunities for fun, friendship, challenge and adventure? If the answer is yes, then you’d make a great Girlguiding volunteer! Whether you want to help with a specific event, on a casual or remote basis, or attend regularly; you can be involved in a way that works for you, suiting your skills, interests and availability.

What you'll be doing

Our local areas are all quite different, which means all our volunteers do slightly different things. Whatever your skills, interests and availability, there’s a role to suit you. Each role is vital to running guiding locally.
You might:
• Help directly with girls in your community, giving them a space to discover their potential – whether that’s at your local groups regular meetings, at one-off events, on trips or adventures!
• Be the behind-the-scenes superhero that makes the magic of guiding happen in one of our supporting roles. Admin could include anything from keeping records up to date remotely to communicating with girls’ parents and carers about the exciting adventures coming up.
• Share a specific skill or passion – to teach girls new things or help guiding run locally. Perhaps you play football and could run a one-off session for girls? Maybe you could lend your DIY skills to help with the upkeep of your local guiding building? Or if you’re a finance or communications whizz, could you help manage accounts or run a local group’s social media?

The skills and qualities you’ll need

• There are no specific skills required - we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences. Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm. There’s definitely a role for you at Girlguiding!

What you’ll get

• Loads of opportunities to learn new things and build your skills. You’ll have access to training on our learning platform, with webinars, elearnings or in-person sessions near you to choose from you can learn about first aid or delivering adventurous activities.
• Safeguarding training to make sure you’re fully equipped and confident to make Girlguiding a safe space for everyone.
• The chance to connect with like-minded people in your area and beyond. You’ll be part of WAGGGS, a worldwide movement inspiring girls across over 150 countries.
• The satisfaction of helping girls in your community know they can do anything!

What we need from you

What we need from you depends on the role you choose. For all our roles we’ll ask you to
• Provide 2 character references.
• Complete our safeguarding training. For roles directly with girls this is safer guiding, for behind-the-scenes roles this is safer guiding basics.
For some roles we’ll also ask you to
• Complete a criminal record disclosure check (DBS, PVG, Access NI or Police Check depending on where you’re volunteering).
