New Brick Lane Community Space Needs Musicians and Organisers

Me and my duet partner have a small retail space near Brick Lane, Shoreditch which we have sole use of on Monday and Tuesday, and we are looking for people to help shape it into something real, regular and community oriented.

The project is currently run by myself, East London based, trained musician, volunteer with other charities and my duet partner, a violinist. Between us we have a vision for what this space can become: a place where music, community and genuine human connection happen without the noise and performance that surrounds almost every other public space today. Genuine human connection over performed connection, if that sounds interesting please keep reading.

The idea is simple: weekly evening gatherings involving acoustic music performances, conversation and shared food. It is NOT a networking even, NOT a showcase and NOT a platform for self-promotion but an actual community of like-minded people who want to be part of it for the sake of being part of it and not to looking for exposure, contacts or followers. In fact one of our proposed rules is no phones while in the community space.

The premises has a commercial kitchen and our longer term intention is to extend the space into a community kitchen, providing communal meals for those who are homeless or struggling financially. That is where we are headed. If that vision resonates with you and you want to be part of building it, we want to hear from you.

The space is also available during the day for therapy sessions, community events, charities, or any individual or group who wants to use it for genuine community or charitable purposes. We will not charge any rental if it is for genuine charitable purposes. We are looking for two kinds of people:

Musicians: singers and instrumentalists, whether you want to play/sing solo or with piano or other instruments accompanying. Piano duos and small chamber ensembles. We are open to all acoustic styles whether it is classical, jazz, Indian classical and other world music traditions. If your instrument is acoustic and your approach is serious, get in touch.

Community builders: if you are reliable, practically minded and community oriented and want to help shape something from the ground up, we would love to hear from you too.

This grows slowly and intentionally through word of mouth, friends of friends at the moment we are looking to keep away from social media as we are not trying to draw in genuine people rather than people comfortable with social media performance.
