Very rare mid 80's Raleigh Super lightweight Steel Road Bike.

As new condition Gravel from the late 80's. Super lightweight Reynolds steel. The best. Very hard to find one in this condition. And being made from steel, is the BEST tubing for gravel. All the original mountain bikes from the 80's were made of steel as the tubing flexes over bumps, acting like suspension with a curved steel fork. I know as I had one, and after 36 years, my nephew still rdes that 89' Trek today and loves it just like I did.
Steel is lightweight , and will outlive any aluminium bike. Today bikes are made 'cheap' from aluminium. The manufacturers add suspension forks as aluminium snaps if flexed. Google; Death Fork. So mountain bikes jumped from 10kg lightweight steel, to 15kg+ tanks that you can still buy in Halfords today. As Aluminium saves the manufacturer a ton of money. Tokyo bikes are still made from steel with the curved fork, but they cost £800+ and cannot take gravel tyres. New handmade steel frames from the UK are £2k. Just for the frame.

This is a real barn find. Immaculate condition. Virtually never ridden. The wheels have ZERO ware from the factory. The braking surface is still black. This is so rare, the 2nd bike I have ever seen from the 80's like this.

I have all these parts in stock and can fit in a morning. So if you would like to book an appointment, please do it before 10am as I won't have time to fit all these parts before 6pm. I have to rebuild the whole bike, new cables etc. That is why it's £595. It's a lot of work.

This has been professionally Powder coated by Raleigh in Nottingham. The Record was one of the few models to get this treatment. Son will last another 40 years, no problem.

All my bikes have been serviced with new bearings, grease, cables, chains, cassettes or any part that needs to be replaced where needed. Every buckle, every gear has been tuned. So each bike rides like new.
