Erard Grand Piano

Description

Looking for a good home for this family heirloom. It has been in the family since 1910 but we have now run out of pianists. In original condition.

This is a classical straight-strung Concert Grand Piano in beautiful Rosewood veneer and Ivory and Ebony keys with Victorian adjustable piano stool. Erard was much favoured by Liszt for its clear tone.

Available for Inspection in Stoke, Plymouth. It has been kept in a shaded room at ambient temperature (no central heating) since 2001. It has not been tuned since before COVID and will need to be retuned a couple of times after relocation,

It came to me from my father (1911-88), who inherited it from his mother, Lucy Thompson (1880-1964), who emigrated from Ballarat in 1906 to pursue a scholarship at the RCM. I presume she met my grandfather (1878-1942), then a junior White Stare officer on the Persic, sailing from Melbourne to Liverpool. Otherwise I cannot see how they ever met. He rose to be a Cunard Captain, and had charge of the Mauretania II during the war, until his death from exhaustion in Port Said in 1942.
