Description
They commence the festive period on Wednesday 17 December, with one of the most celebrated pieces in the classical canon, Handel's jubilant oratorio. Since 1742, Messiah has secured itself in the Christmas calendar as a true celebration of the nativity. Heaped with beautiful arias including He was Despised and Rejected and I Know that My Redeemer Liveth and rousing choruses like For Unto Us a Child is Born and the ever-popular Hallelujah Chorus.
Christmas just isn’t Christmas without the BSO's Last Night of the Christmas Proms concert! On Saturday 20 December, dive head first into festivities and bring the whole family along for this musical sleigh ride. Orchestral classics, traditional Christmas numbers new and old, and a selection of Broadway and West End hits all wrapped up with a sprinkling of magic and a great big bow on top. And with Pete Harrison returning as conductor and West-end-star Jenna Lee-James joining as a soloist, this evening of festive fanfare is sure to be the highlight of the season!
Experience the warmth and joy of Christmas with a concert devoted to the best traditional carols ever written. On Tuesday 23 December, join in the singing with the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and Youth Chorus. With a selection of festive favourites, the evening is the perfect way to start the Christmas holiday in the company of family and friends, and a good old, sing-along. The afternoon performance at 3pm is a shorter family friendly relaxed performance, whilst the 7pm evening concert celebrates the coming of the holiday season with an extended second half featuring a few more festive favourites.
These concerts are part of their BSO Pops series - this fantastic array of concerts include popular classics that you will recognize from TV and adverts to full- blown symphonic Spectaculars showcasing the music of the likes of Queen, ABBA and Pink Floyd and outdoor extravaganzas at Meyrick Park in Bournemouth. They also perform regular film music nights which feature some of the best movie classics ever written and an annual feast of New Year seasonal treats.
The BSO ho-ho-hope you will join them this December!
