Description
System Test & Verification Engineer (Embedded Systems)Location: Bristol- On-site 3 Days per WeekSalary: GBP55,000 - GBP65,000 + Bonus & Benefits (depending on experience)Note: All applicants must be able to work in the UK without the need for VISA Sponsorship now, or in the futureSummary: A successful candidate will play a hands-on role in implementing and managing Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulations (HiLS) to test hardware and firmware. They will take ownership of test strategy and execution for both legacy and new product developments, designing test cases, generating scenarios, and performing automated and manual testing to ensure solutions meet defined requirements. They will be responsible for maintaining clear test documentation and reports to support system and sub-system sign-off, while working closely with engineering teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues. The role will also involve contributing to reliability activities such as risk assessments and Failure Mode Effects Analysis, using data-driven insights to improve system robustness. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret test results, solve complex problems, and enhance overall system performance, while adhering to established standards for coding, version control, and documentation.Key Responsibilities: Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and cases for hardware and firmwareDesign, configure, and maintain the HiLS environmentEnsure tests are fully traceable to high and low-level requirementsIntegrate physical hardware with virtual models and simulation toolsValidate requirements coverage and traceabilityInvestigate issues, report defects, and support resolution effortsProduce clear, accurate test documentation and reportsContribute to agile planning, defining testable acceptance criteria earlyUse embedded toolchains, debuggers, simulators, and automated test systemsInterpret hardware schematics and datasheetsCollaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teamsExperience Required:At least 3-years' experience working with HiLS systemsProven experience in HiLS testingExperience with LabVIEW or MATLAB/SimulinkAbility to develop test cases using scripting languages (e.g. Python) and automation toolsSolid understanding of embedded systems, control systems, and system integrationExperience using version control systems (e.g. Git)Proficient with Microsoft Windows and standard Office applicationsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsDegree in Computer Science, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or a related fieldDesirable Skills & Experience: Knowledge of ARM and/or Microchip dsPIC architecturesExperience developing C code for bare-metal embedded systemsStrong system integration and interface debugging skillsFamiliarity with automated testing frameworks (e.g. Pytest, Unity, Robot Framework) and debugging tools (e.g. JTAG, GDB, oscilloscopes)Good understanding of digital and analogue electronicsKnowledge of common communication interfaces and protocols (e.g. SPI, RS485)Understanding of Systems Engineering principlesFamiliarity with UMLExperience using task tracking tools (e.g. Jira, ClickUp)Benefits PackageCompetitive pension scheme (up to 7% employer matched)Discretionary annual bonus (typically around 10%)25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidaysPrivate medical healthcareHybrid working and flexitimeAnnual wellness checksRetail vouchersMental health support servicesIf you're interested in learning more about this opportunity, please apply with your latest CV.
