Section Engineer

Huddersfield area

12 month rolling contract

GBP400 - GBP425 per day

Responsibilities:

Act as the technical lead for allocated sections of work, providing engineering support and oversight to subcontractors, operatives, and craftspeople within your areaManage and mentor graduate engineers and apprentices, offering guidance and support to aid in their professional developmentUndertake setting out and verification of infrastructure installations, ensuring accuracy against design specificationsPrepare, review, and manage safe systems of work, including method statements, permits, and quality documents such as ITPs and QRPsEnsure all work and materials comply with project specifications and quality standardsOversee the selection, requisition, and inspection of materialsInterpret and manage contract design documents on-siteLiaise with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors, and the wider workforce to ensure smooth project deliveryCoordinate with design teams to resolve technical queries during constructionAttend and contribute to regular project and progress meetingsSupervise and monitor labour, junior engineers, and subcontractor activity within your section of responsibilityCollaborate with the Sub Agent, Foreman, and supply chain partners to proactively address on-site issues and maintain progressPlan and organise plant, labour, and site facilities efficiently to meet deadlinesMaintain accurate site records, including diaries, progress reports, and quality documentationEnsure high standards of quality control and site health and safetyTroubleshoot and resolve any unexpected technical challenges or site conditions

Requirements:

HNC, HND, or degree in Civil Engineering (BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng)Proven experience delivering infrastructure projects, ideally with rail sector involvement. PTS desirable but not essentialValid CSCS card (mandatory)SMSTS qualification preferredTemporary works coordination ticket beneficialStrong verbal and written communication skillsConfident leading tasks and supervising teamsWillingness and ability to mentor junior staffExperience with elements such as earthworks, drainage, structures, surfacing, and temporary works
