Description

MRD Recruitment is currently recruiting a Purchasing Officer for one of our engineering clients based in Renfrewshire.

About the Role

This is a hands-on purchasing position where you will manage the full procurement cycle- from sourcing suppliers and obtaining quotes to negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery. You will work closely with engineering, production, and supplier teams to maintain efficient supply chains, control costs, and uphold quality standards.

The role is perfect for someone with experience in engineering or manufacturing procurement, who understands technical requirements and can balance cost, quality, and delivery priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Source and procure engineering materials, components, tools, and servicesEvaluate supplier quotations to ensure best value for cost, quality, and deliveryNegotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliersIssue purchase orders and track deliveries to ensure deadlines are metMaintain accurate procurement records and documentationBuild and maintain strong supplier relationships while identifying new sourcing opportunitiesMonitor inventory levels in coordination with warehouse and production teamsResolve supplier issues, including delays, quality concerns, or discrepanciesEnsure compliance with company policies, health & safety, and industry regulationsSupport continuous improvement initiatives in procurement processesKey Skills & Competencies

Strong negotiation and supplier management skillsExcellent analytical and problem-solving abilitiesHigh attention to detail and accuracyUnderstanding of engineering materials and technical requirementsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesProficiency in procurement systems and Microsoft Office (Excel)Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field (preferred)Proven experience in purchasing or procurement, ideally in engineering or manufacturingProfessional procurement certifications (e.g., CIPS) are advantageous
