Substations & BESS Projects Progression into Project Management

We are supporting a growing consultancy in Derby in their search for a Project Engineer / Civil Design Engineer to join their expanding infrastructure and energy team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with 2-3 years' experience who is looking to combine strong technical design skills with a clear pathway into Project Management, working on cutting-edge substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

The Project Engineer role;

You will be involved in the delivery of civil engineering packages on major energy infrastructure projects, supporting both design development and project coordination. The role offers a balanced mix of technical input and project-facing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities of this Project Engineer role;

Assist in the design and delivery of civil works for substation and BESS projectsSupport the management of project programmes, budgets, and resourcesCoordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholdersContribute to project planning, reporting, and risk managementWork within and support the administration of NEC ContractsEnsure timely and high-quality project deliveryAbout You

2-3 years' experience in civil engineering, ideally within a consultancy environmentExperience in civil design, with exposure to project coordination or deliveryInterest in developing a career in Project ManagementUnderstanding of, or experience working with, NEC ContractsStrong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skillsA proactive and collaborative approachDesirable
