This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and experienced team based in South Yorkshire, supporting seven offices across the UK. You will work on a diverse range of geotechnical and land contamination projects spanning sectors such as energy, infrastructure, renewable energy, regeneration, commercial development and local government.

What to Expect in the Role

As a Geo-Environmental Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering project investigations, with a strong emphasis on site-based work. You will contribute to both geo-environmental and geotechnical investigations, data interpretation and technical reporting.

The role is ideal for someone with a proactive attitude, strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Carrying out Preliminary Risk Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies) and intrusive site investigations for environmental and geotechnical purposes in accordance with national standards and industry best practice.

Managing fieldwork activities, including supervising drilling and excavation operations, undertaking gas and groundwater monitoring, carrying out groundwater and surface water sampling, and logging soils and rocks.

Overseeing remediation and earthworks activities, including liaising with contractors to ensure work is undertaken in line with approved specifications.

Assisting project managers with planning new projects, communicating with subcontractors and suppliers, and preparing health, safety, environmental and quality documentation.

Scheduling soil, rock and water samples for geotechnical and chemical laboratory testing.

Splitting your time approximately 50/40 between site and office work, with occasional travel and nights away for more distant projects.

Producing factual and interpretative technical reports.

Supporting senior staff in the preparation of fee proposals.

About You

Degree-qualified (BSc or equivalent) in Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline.

1-3 years of relevant experience in a similar role.

Experience supervising fieldwork activities such as trial pitting and windowless sampling, including management of subcontractors and on-site safety.

Rock core logging experience is advantageous but not essential.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clear and accurate report writing.

Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Adaptable and flexible in approach.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with Openground logging software is beneficial but not essential.

Committed to professional development, with current or aspiring membership of a relevant professional body.
