Our client is seeking an FPGA Engineer to support advanced Defence and Security programmes on a contract basis. The role involves designing, developing and verifying FPGA firmware for complex electronic systems, working across multidisciplinary engineering teams and highly regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Designing and developing FPGA solutions using Xilinx, TCL, Verilog, SystemVerilog and UVMWorking with FPGA architectures including Xilinx 7 Series, Xilinx UltraScale, Intel (Altera) and Microsemi (Actel)Developing and integrating high–speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet and JESDUsing MATLAB and Simulink for model–driven engineering and auto–generated codeDeriving detailed firmware requirements and architectures from wider system requirementsApplying structured firmware design processes aligned with RTCA DO–254 or similar standardsSupporting the development of cryptography and anti–tamper techniquesContributing to artificial intelligence applications, including machine learning and genetic algorithmsUsing appropriate electronics test methods and equipment to verify system performanceCollaborating effectively within mixed–discipline engineering teams

Job Requirements:

Experience in FPGA engineering, firmware development Strong knowledge of Verilog, SystemVerilog, TCL and UVMUnderstanding of Xilinx, Intel (Altera) or Microsemi FPGA architecturesExperience with high–speed interfaces, including PCIe, Ethernet and JESDKnowledge of structured firmware development and standards such as RTCA DO–254Understanding of cryptography, anti–tamper methods and secure electronics designFamiliarity with MATLAB, Simulink, model–driven engineering or auto–generated codeStrong electronics testing, problem–solving and analytical skillsGood written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary Defence and Security environments
