Contract Design Engineer - SolidWorks IR35 Status: OutHourly - Circa GBP47.00 DOEContract Term - 6 months Location - Remote Join a leading innovator in mobile energy and EV charging solutions, delivering scalable, off-grid technologies for commercial, defence, and emergency applications. With a strong focus on sustainability and rapid deployment, this organisation is shaping the future of clean, independent power systems.We're seeking experienced Mechanical Design Engineers with advanced SolidWorks skills to support critical project delivery. You'll work remotely via a secure portal, contributing to the refinement and upgrade of existing designs and helping bring products to market. To be considered you will need to have either an active SC clearance or DBS certificate or be willing to provide a basic DBS certificate.Responsibilities, but are not limited to
Lead mechanical design of battery modules, enclosures, and bespoke components using SolidWorks 2025 (connected to 3D Experience)Develop IP67-IP68-rated enclosures and integrate harness and cable routing into assembliesApply GD&T principles and ensure compliance with environmental and mechanical standardsDesign using plastic injection moulding, sheet metal, and materials such as aluminium, ABS, and fibreglass-reinforced plasticsEngineer busbars, connectors, and laser-welded assemblies for high-reliability applicationsPerform tolerance analysis and ensure electrical safety spacing in compact designsCollaborate with ECAD engineers to import and integrate 3D models (STP files) into SolidWorksOptimise designs for mass manufacture and assembly, identifying risks and refining components pre-productionAttend weekly engineering progress meetings and deliver updates on tasks and milestones Experiences required
Proficient creating detailed 3D models using SolidWorksA minimum of 5 years in Mechanical / Electrical EngineeringStrong background in DFM and creating detailed technical drawing packsExperience with harness and cable routing, battery module design, and enclosure developmentFamiliarity with plastic and sheet metal design, joining techniques, and compliance standardsMust provide own CAD workstationMust provide own SolidWorks 2025 licenseMust have an active SC clearance or DBS certificate or be willing to provide one a basic DBS certificate
