Bridge Engineer / Senior Bridge Engineer

Description

Our client is seeking a Bridge Engineer or Senior Bridge Engineer to join a multidisciplinary highways team in Manchester. This permanent role offers the opportunity to work on major road, rail and footbridge schemes across the UK and Ireland, supporting projects from pre-planning and preliminary design through to detailed design, assessment, rehabilitation and construction.

Key Responsibilities:

Delivering bridge and structures design packages across a varied portfolio of transport infrastructure projectsContributing to inspections, assessments and rehabilitation schemes for existing bridges and structuresDesigning new reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel and steel composite bridgesPreparing technical reports, approval-in-principle documentation, technical acceptance submissions and contract documentsApplying Eurocodes, UK bridge design standards and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, local authorities, contractors and external consultantsManaging technical tasks across multiple projects while maintaining quality, accuracy and delivery standardsSupporting or leading junior engineers and contributing to project coordination, planning and client relationships

Job Requirements:

Degree-level qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related disciplineRelevant experience in bridge and structures engineering within the highways or transport infrastructure sectorStrong understanding of bridge design, structural assessment and rehabilitation principlesKnowledge of structural Eurocodes, DMRB and UK bridge design standardsExperience using structural analysis and design software; knowledge of Midas Civil would be advantageousAbility to produce clear technical reports, design documentation and contract informationStrong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teamsChartered status, or a commitment to working towards CEng, MICE, MIStructE, MIEI or an equivalent professional qualification

Additional Information:

Location: ManchesterPermanent positionHybrid working, with approximately two to three days per week in the officeStandard working pattern of 37.5 hours per weekTravel across the UK and Ireland may be required depending on project demandsProjects include major highways and transport schemes such as the A66, M6 Lune Gorge, A417 and A9, alongside Ireland-based road and rail projects
