Location: Greater Manchester

Salary: £32,000 – £39,140 per annum DOE Benefits

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Lead Engineer to join a growing Radio Systems Engineering team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled radio communications specialist who enjoys leading technical delivery, overseeing system design, and ensuring engineering excellence across large-scale projects throughout the UK and Europe.

As the Technical Lead, you will act as a key technical authority, supporting project teams, guiding engineers, liaising with customers, and ensuring that all radio communication systems are delivered to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Planning

Attend project calls and deployment meetings

Interpret customer technical requirements and installation scopes

Cascade technical instructions to engineers and subcontractors

Work closely with the PMO to align engineering resources

Technical Oversight

Validate site survey outputs including heat maps and floor plans

Identify risks, blockers, and technical challenges before installation

Ensure compliance with engineering standards and customer specifications

Site Engagement

Conduct site familiarisation and occasional site visits for complex deployments

Perform pre?installation checks and visual walkthroughs

Documentation & Reporting

Gather engineering feedback and prepare close?out documentation

Maintain accurate technical records and ensure timely submission to customers

Subcontractor & Customer Liaison

Communicate installation plans, cable routes, and antenna placements

Provide technical guidance and resolve on?site issues

Support pre?sales activities including surveys, system design, and specifications

Deliver post?sales support including customer training

General Engineering Duties

Design, install, and commission PMR, DMR, telemetry radio, and microwave systems

Support and maintain Motorola radio systems

Diagnose and repair radio equipment from hand portables to base stations

Produce H&S documentation to meet customer requirements

Maintain high technical standards and support knowledge sharing within the team

Participate in regional standby rotas when required

Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and on time

Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines at all times

Key Outcomes

Deliver exceptional service to all customers

Ensure smooth handover of completed installations to the service team

Strengthen the organisation’s reputation through high?quality engineering leadership

Essential Skills & Experience

Proven working background in two?way radio communications

Strong knowledge of Motorola PMR, DMR, TETRA, telemetry, or microwave systems

Understanding of IP technologies including routing, switching, and VoIP

Experience with DAS (active and passive), VHF/UHF, and cellular systems

Ability to detect and resolve RF interference and intermodulation issues

Knowledge of 2G/3G/4G in?building coverage techniques

EMF testing and ICNIRP compliance experience

Proven project design and project management capability

Competent in producing H&S documentation

Able to work at heights and in confined spaces

Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Full UK driving licence and valid passport

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Willingness to undergo security vetting

Desirable

Experience with LV electrical systems

SCADA / Control & Automation knowledge

Understanding of TCP/IP, MODBUS, Profibus, RS232

Experience with Trbonet, Windows Server, SQL Server

RF over Fibre experience

Duplexer, combiner, and filter tuning

CCNA or PASMA training

HNC Electrical/Electronics or equivalent

Confined space or CSCS/EUSR/SHEA certification
