Description
Key responsibilities
Installation: Installing electrical systems, wiring, lighting, and equipment according to blueprints and technical diagrams.
Maintenance and repair: Conducting routine maintenance, diagnosing faults, and repairing or replacing faulty wiring, components, and equipment.
Testing and inspection: Testing and inspecting electrical systems, including circuit breakers and transformers, to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
Safety and compliance: Ensuring all work adheres to local and national safety standards, including the current UK wiring regulations (BS7671).
Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of installations, repairs, and inspections.
Troubleshooting: Using testing devices and critical thinking to identify and resolve electrical issues.
Essential qualifications and skills
Qualifications: A minimum Level 3 NVQ or diploma in electrotechnical technology or electrical installation is required.
Wiring regulations: Completion of the City and Guilds 2382-15 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) is a common requirement.
Inspection and testing: Qualifications such as City and Guilds 2391 for inspection and testing are often preferred or required for certain roles.
Practical skills: Ability to work from blueprints, use hand and power tools, and perform multi-skilled tasks is essential.
Soft skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, time management, and customer service skills are necessary.
Physical requirements: Must be physically capable of the job and possess good eyesight for distinguishing-colored wires.
Other requirements: A UK driving license is often required, and some roles may necessitate a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
