Rogers XP8 7 drum kit Maple Shells
Norwich, Norfolk
£1,750
Email address verified
Description
Bought new by me in 1981 my Roger’s XP8 natural maple shell drum kit. One of the last Roger’s kits to be produced in America and renowned for its heavy duty hardware and drum quality.
There are minor marks as expected on 45 year old drums but overall still in great condition.
Whats included:-
24” Bass drum including spare resonator head
10-12-13-14 & 16” Toms
2 Trak floor boom arm cymbal stands and
2 integral boom arm cymbal stands
Original Roger’s snare stand and Hi Hat stand.
A set of ludwig hard cases some wear but fully functional.
If it’s not mentioned above assume it is not included but in particular no Cymbals, snare drum, seat.
I have played this kit as a 4-5 & 7 drum kit but it has been stored carefully in its cases for long periods when I didn’t play
I do have a gretsch maple snare drum that I will sell with the kit for £100 extra ( I also have a metal Roger’s Dynasonic snare but that is circa £500 on its own so will probably sell that separately unless buyer is interested to make a sensible offer).
Kit is within 5 miles of Norwich and is obviously collection only.
I can take more specific photos and answer questions as required.
Here is an extract from a drum forum talking about Roger’s XP 8 :drums -
I have a set of …XP8s that I bought new in 1980. They were very expensive drums at the time, as they were hand crafted in the USA using only the best materials. Rogers pioneered the 8 ply, all maple design with no reinforcement rings and modern 45 degree bearing edges. They also covered the inside with clear lacquer, as the product was stunningly prepared and there was no need to hide anything, as the maple layers were free of defects.
XP8s have a modern sonic quality not unlike today's drums….Rogers was way ahead of its time in engineering and construction, the drums sound great today no matter what you do. After all, this is old growth New England Rock Maple, thirty five years seasoned, and now extinct.
Prices are a bargain today, as XP8s don't carry the cache of the earlier 1960s Swivmatic series drums. However, many argue that these are the best-built shells Rogers ever produced, and with a modern sound to go with it.
