Description

Chassis Application Engineer

Mechanical / Automotive Engineering | Graduate to 2+ Years' Experience

ASL Technical is recruiting for a Chassis Application Advisor to join a specialist engineering and manufacturing business working with commercial vehicle chassis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career Mechanical or Automotive Engineer who has an appreciation of commercial vehicles and vehicle integration. You will play an important role in understanding how different chassis and cab configurations can be specified to suit specialist vehicle applications.

Commercial vehicle chassis can vary significantly, with different wheelbases, chassis layouts, engines, gearboxes, drivelines, axle configurations and mounting locations. You will develop an understanding of how these variations affect the specification and suitability of a vehicle, including where major equipment and body systems can be integrated onto the chassis.

The Role

Working closely with engineering, sales, purchasing and major commercial vehicle manufacturers, you will:

Develop, create and maintain detailed commercial vehicle chassis specifications documentation

Assess chassis configurations including wheelbase, driveline, engine and gearbox combinations, weights and axle layouts

Carry out or support weight, axle load and driveline calculations

Provide technical guidance to sales teams on chassis selection and suitability

Review customer and sales requirements from a technical perspective

Produce clear specifications and technical documentation for engineering and manufacturing teams

Work with purchasing teams and suppliers on technical evaluations

Maintain technical records, manuals and specification databases

Liaise with major truck and chassis manufacturers to obtain and interpret technical information

About You

We are keen to speak with Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering graduates, as well as engineers with a couple of years of relevant experience.

You may already have exposure to HGVs, commercial vehicles, vehicle design, chassis engineering, bodybuilder applications or vehicle integration, but this is not essential if you have a strong engineering foundation and genuine interest in commercial vehicle design.

Ideally, you will have:

A degree or qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline

A good understanding of vehicle fundamentals and mechanical systems

An interest in HGV chassis design and commercial vehicle engineering

The ability to understand how changes in wheelbase, powertrain, driveline and chassis configuration affect a vehicle's application

Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret technical information

Good communication skills and confidence working with different engineering and commercial teams

A methodical and organised approach to documentation and problem-solving

Knowledge of commercial vehicles, truck chassis, vehicle weights, axle loads, bodybuilder requirements or zero-emission vehicle technologies would be advantageous, but training and development can be provided.

What's on Offer?

This is a genuinely interesting engineering role offering the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in HGV chassis specification, vehicle integration and commercial vehicle design. xjnqpsq

You will work across engineering, sales, purchasing and leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, gaining exposure to a wide range of vehicle configurations and specialist applications.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Core Hours: 09:00–16:00

If you are a Mechanical or Automotive Engineer looking for an opportunity to develop a career in commercial vehicle engineering, or already have some experience with HGVs and vehicle chassis, we would be very interested in speaking with you.
