HGV Tanker Trailer Fitter / Mechanic / Northallerton / £15.50+ per hour, DOE
Skilled HGV Mechanic? Fancy a better work-life balance?
Are you an experienced HGV Trailer Fitter or Mechanic looking for a hands-on role with plenty of variety, a steady workload and, importantly, no unexpected middle-of-the-night call-outs?
Sayers Tankers is looking for a skilled HGV Tanker Trailer Fitter / Mechanic to join our Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) at Leeming Bar.
You'll play an important role in keeping our extensive fleet of specialist tanker trailers safe, reliable and roadworthy. Working on everything from food-grade and milk tankers to ADR waste and vacuum waste vehicles, no two days are quite the same.
We're looking for someone who knows their way around artic trailers, enjoys fault-finding and takes pride in producing quality work.
And the best bit? No call-outs, no out-of-hours breakdowns and no phone rota. You can enjoy a rewarding engineering role without sacrificing your evenings and weekends.
What will you be doing?
You'll be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing our fleet of hire tankers and customer vehicles, helping to ensure everything is safe, compliant and ready for the road.
Your duties will include:
Carrying out routine maintenance, servicing and general trailer repairs.
Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical and electrical faults.
Preparing vehicles for MOT and ADR inspections.
Completing six-weekly service inspections and brake roller testing.
Maintaining accurate DVSA records and workshop documentation.
Carrying out repairs to lighting, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Working on running gear, including BPW, ROR and SAF axles, alongside Knorr-Bremse and Haldex braking systems.
Repairing and replacing trailer body components, cladding, wings, side rails, walkways and handrails.
Maintaining compressor and pumping systems on vacuum waste tankers.
Overhauling trailers and carrying out general running repairs.
Supporting the wider maintenance team to keep our fleet in excellent condition.
You'll work across a varied fleet, including general purpose tankers, ADR waste tankers and food-grade/milk tankers.
What we're looking for
We're keen to hear from experienced mechanics and fitters who can bring practical skills, a good work ethic and a proactive approach to the team.
Ideally, you'll have:
Demonstrable experience working on HGV artic trailers.
Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
Knowledge of trailer servicing, maintenance and inspections.
Experience with mechanical and electrical systems.
A good understanding of vehicle safety and compliance.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A methodical approach and pride in the quality of your work.
Previous experience working on tanker trailers would be a major advantage.
Additional skills in welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, compressor systems or pumping equipment would also be highly beneficial.
What's on offer?
We know that a good job is about more than just the hourly rate. Here's what you can expect:
Pay from £15.50 per hour, with the rate depending on your experience and skill set.
Paid weekly.
Overtime available depending on workload.
20 days' annual holiday plus bank holidays.
Consistent working hours with no call-out commitments.
No out-of-hours breakdowns.
No phone rota. xjnqpsq
