FULL DESCRIPTION
These very rare Ercol chairs are all in an excellent almost blemish free condition. They are of blue label era that dates them pre 1976 and are shown in late 1960’s catalogues. When I acquired them, they were in remarkably good lightly used condition but the original lacquer although not showing any wear was faded and discoloured in areas that had been exposed to sunlight over the years. This finish was completely removed by hand scraping and sanding over quite a few weeks of my spare time. Any loose joints were attended to along with some minor cracking that often occurs in 60yr old Ercol Elm seat bases. The arms, spindles and legs being Beech had no defects to repair.

The new finish applied on every part of the chairs was many thinned coats of Rustin’s hard setting Danish oil that enhances the natural unstained woods below and being chairs, should never require any further treatment. Having said this should the chairs ever get damaged it is a simple job to apply new coats of Rustin’s or other Danish oil on any affected area. I have restored a few Ercol tables and chairs using both lacquers and oils – but whenever I come across unstained natural Elm and Beech - oil is my preferred choice giving a shade that works well with both old and newer Ercol furniture in LT or similar wood shade. With reasonable care these chairs should now be good for another 60yrs use.

I also have the original below base cushion retaining studs – also a few of the original full or part blue labels that had to be removed for refurbishment.

With chairs of this value, it is important that any purchaser has the opportunity to inspect in person before committing to purchase. Being retired this can be at most arranged times.
