Description
Please read this advert in full before applying — it'll save us both time.
Before you apply, you must:
Hold a full UK driving licence (we check)
Have few or no points on your licence (we check)
Disclose any spent or unspent convictions (we check)
Be physically capable of heavy, sustained labouring work
If any of these are a problem, this role isn't for you.
About the role
BCP House Clearance is one of Dorset's most established house clearance companies (Please note: we are in no way associated with BCP Council).
We're looking for a reliable driver and hard-working labourer to join our team. It's physically demanding with a lot of heavy lifting and isn't for everyone — but it's varied, rewarding, and comes with wage reviews once you're settled.
You'll drive to our base each morning to collect our Luton van, then drive the team to and from properties across Dorset — mainly Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch — clearing all types of household items and rubbish. This is not just a driving job: you'll be getting your hands dirty, lifting sofas, washing machines, beds and other heavy items, and loading and unloading the van throughout the day. We expect professionalism with customers and colleagues at all times, and fast work without cutting corners.
Hours & pay
Starting from £14 per hour, with reviews once settled
Shifts start at 8am and usually finish around 5 to 6pm, but can run later if the day overruns
Not a Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm role — days and hours vary, and you must be flexible
What we need from you
A full, clean UK driving licence and your own car to get to and from our base
Confidence driving large (Luton) vans
Insurance/hire eligibility: because you may need to drive a hired replacement van when ours is off the road, you must meet standard commercial vehicle-hire criteria — generally at least 25, or 21+ with two years of clean licence history
Living locally, ideally within 10 miles of Bournemouth
Good physical health and a solid level of fitness
Weight awareness: you'll be responsible for loading the van safely and staying within its legal weight limits — a 3.5t van fills up fast, so an understanding of payload and load distribution is a real plus
Honest, trustworthy, reliable, organised and punctual — punctuality is non-negotiable
Good knowledge of the BCP area (Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole) is highly desirable
Previous experience in similar work is preferred but not essential
Your health matters
Your safety comes first. Please be honest about any current or previous health issues, particularly injuries to the head, neck, back or legs, so we can make adjustments where needed and keep you safe.
Alcohol & drugs
You must not have an alcohol or drug dependency, or drink/take drugs excessively before a shift. As a guide, allow 12–13 hours from your last drink before an 8am start — roughly four cans of beer or one bottle of wine. Occasional heavier drinking should be kept to your days off. Turning up impaired puts you, your colleagues and the public at risk, and will be treated as gross misconduct.
How to apply
Email us an up-to-date CV — applications without one won't be considered.
