Description

Up for sale is a full set of four bone china mugs that were made in 1985 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of The Times newspaper.

The location is N4, Hackney, north London.

The set of four mugs was made by English china tableware manufacturer Hammersley, which by 1985 was part of Royal Worcester Spode.

Each mug features a clipping of an historic front page headline story from The Times between the years 1785 to 1985:

- Saturday 1 January 1785 - The first ever edition of The Daily Universal Register, the newspaper that would go on to become The Times
- Thursday 22 June 1815 – The Duke of Wellington’s victory against Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo
- Tuesday 6 August 1844 – Queen Victoria gives birth to her fourth child, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh
- Wednesday 5 May 1926 – The start of the nationwide General Strike in the UK

The mugs belonged to my late dad and have only been used for display purposes and not for drinking.

Each mug weighs approx. 195g / 7oz and measures 10cm / 4” high and 8cm / 3.125” in diameter.

The mugs are more than 40 years old and all four of them are in excellent, untouched condition with no chips, cracks, marks or crazing.

The only exception is the mug featuring news of the Battle of Waterloo, which has a small dark scuff near its rim. I have circled the scuff in red in one of the photos.

Please see the photos for more info and details on condition.

I’d like the mugs to go to a good new home with somebody who will enjoy owning them.

The mugs sell as is. No returns. Cash payment, please.

Collection in person from N4, Hackney, north London.

For postal buyers:

UK postage is £5.40 via Royal Mail 24-hour tracked delivery or £4.25 via Royal Mail 48-hour tracked delivery (small parcel).

I will pack the mugs securely with bubble wrap and packing chips to keep them safe and sound in the post.

Please note that I don’t post to PO box addresses because I cannot track the delivery.

Thanks for visiting my sales post. Please visit my other sales posts where I am selling other items of china and tableware that belonged to my parents.
