Description

Site Manager – HVDC Linear Civils, Caithness

£500 per day plus accommodation | £40 per day allowance on top of the day rate | 18-month contract | Immediate start for the right candidate

In the far north of Scotland, work is under way on one of the most significant HVDC transmission projects currently being delivered in the UK. We are supporting a leading global cable manufacturer with a strong track record on major Scottish infrastructure, including previous HVDC links in Caithness and the surrounding region, and we are now seeking an experienced Site Manager to lead the onshore civil works.

This is a role for a manager who takes ownership of delivery — someone who plans the works, leads the teams, manages the client relationship and carries responsibility for the corridor from start to finish.

The scope

Overall delivery of linear civils — trenching, duct installation, backfilling, reinstatement and temporary works — along the onshore cable route

Management of subcontractors and direct labour, ensuring programme, productivity and quality are aligned throughout

Representation of the site at client meetings, providing clear and confident reporting on progress, issues and solutions

Preparation and review of project documentation — RAMS, drawings, specifications and progress reports — to a standard suitable for client submission

Setting and maintaining the safety standard across the site, with RAMS actively implemented and hazards identified and addressed early

Close coordination with senior project management and HSEQ teams, supported by accurate records and reporting

The experience we are looking for

A track record in comparable Principal Contractor roles, managing linear civils, HVDC or similar infrastructure projects

SMSTS qualified with a relevant CSCS card, and demonstrable training and competence at an equivalent level

Strong communication skills, comfortable engaging at every level from site operatives to client representatives

Previous experience preparing and reviewing project documentation in a client-facing environment

Willingness to work remotely for the duration of the project, with accommodation provided

The terms on offer

A day rate of £500, with accommodation provided and a £40 per day allowance on top of the day rate. The contract runs for 18 months, with an immediate start available for the right candidate — a rare combination of stability and seniority on a project of genuine national significance.
