Private Sector Housing Officer – Kent

50– 55 per hour

Initial 6–Month Contract

Hybrid Working

Park Avenue Recruitment are working with a Local Authority in Kent that is looking for an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 6–month interim contract.

The council is looking for someone who can come in and provide additional support specifically around HMOs, so this would be a great opportunity for an officer with strong experience in HMO inspections, licensing and enforcement.

Responsibilities

As a Private Sector Housing Officer, you will:

Carry out HMO inspections across the borough.Investigate unlicensed and potentially licensable HMOs.Undertake HHSRS assessments, with experience or knowledge of the new HHSRS system helpful.Manage HMO licensing cases from inspection through to resolution.Investigate complaints relating to housing conditions and standards within HMOs.Take appropriate enforcement action where properties or landlords are non–compliant.Prepare and serve statutory notices where required.Liaise with landlords, tenants and managing agents to resolve housing–standard issues.Maintain accurate inspection notes, evidence and case records.Work closely with colleagues across the wider Private Sector Housing and Environmental Health team.

Relevant knowledge and practical experience:

Housing Act 2004HMO inspections and licensingHHSRS, with knowledge of the new system beneficialIdentifying and investigating unlicensed HMOsPrivate Sector Housing enforcementHousing standards and disrepairStatutory noticesLandlord and tenant legislationThe council is particularly interested in speaking with officers who are confident managing their own HMO caseload and can come into the team and hit the ground running.

The role offers hybrid working, with site attendance across Kent required alongside home working.
