Maintenance Assistant

Oxford Temporary Contract 15.86 per hour ( 33,001 equivalent)

Manpower is currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Assistant to join a well–established and prestigious organisation in Oxford on a temporary basis for approximately 2–3 months. This is an urgent requirement and offers the opportunity to work within a professional facilities and estates environment.

Hours:

Monday to Friday7:30am – 3:30pm40 hours per week

Pay Rate:

15.86 per hourEquivalent annual salary of 33,001Weekly pay via Manpower

About the Role

This is a hands–on maintenance position supporting the day–to–day upkeep, repair and compliance of a large and busy estate. The successful candidate will carry out a mix of planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs and general maintenance duties.

This role would suit someone with previous building maintenance experience who is practical, reliable, customer–focused and comfortable working in a varied environment where no two days are the same.

Please note: This is not purely a facilities inspection role. Alongside planned maintenance activities, the successful candidate must be willing to undertake less desirable tasks when required, including:

Unblocking toiletsClearing and maintaining drainsGeneral reactive maintenance issuesManual handling and movement of furniture/equipmentRoutine water hygiene flushing checks (carried out every Wednesday alongside the wider maintenance team)

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance works across the estateComplete routine compliance inspections including water hygiene, emergency lighting and fire safety checksPerform minor repairs and basic adaptation works to buildings, fixtures and equipmentRespond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency issuesAssist with furniture moves, equipment replacement and room set–ups as requiredWork closely with housekeeping and operational teams to maintain high standards throughout the estateComplete all maintenance records accurately using electronic systems and tabletsEnsure workshops, stores and work areas remain safe, clean and organisedFollow all health and safety procedures and safe working practices at all times

On–Call Opportunities

There is an out–of–hours call–out rota within the maintenance team which attracts additional payment.

Candidates will not be expected to participate immediately and will only join the rota once they have demonstrated sufficient competency and confidence within the role.

What We're Looking For

Essential

Previous experience in building services or general maintenanceProven practical experience carrying out repairs and maintenance tasksGood understanding of health and safety requirementsAbility to work independently and manage workloads effectivelyComfortable dealing with urgent and reactive maintenance issuesStrong customer service and communication skillsBasic IT skills, including the use of tablets and maintenance systemsFull UK driving licence with no endorsementsFlexible approach and willingness to support a wider team

Qualifications

GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds, recognised apprenticeship, relevant trade qualification, or equivalent practical experience

Desirable

Trade qualifications in a maintenance disciplineBroad knowledge of building maintenance and facilities managementExperience carrying out compliance checks and planned preventative maintenance
