Description

Job Title: Support Worker – Children’s Residential Care (Under 16) Purpose of the Role To provide safe, nurturing, and person-centred support to children and young people under the age of 16 living in a residential care setting.

The role involves supporting daily living activities, emotional wellbeing, and personal development in line with each child’s individual care plan.

Support will be delivered in accordance with Ofsted regulations, safeguarding legislation, and the home’s policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of care and safety.

Key Responsibilities Care and Support Provide day-to-day support in line with each child’s individual care and placement plan.

Assist and supervise children with personal care where required, maintaining dignity, privacy and respect at all times.

Promote independence and life skills appropriate to the child’s age and development.

Provide emotional support, active listening and reassurance to children in your care.

Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people.

Daily Living and Household Support Ensure the home environment is safe, clean, warm and welcoming.

Support children in preparing simple meals and drinks, encouraging participation where appropriate.

Assist with light household duties including tidying bedrooms, laundry and maintaining communal areas.

Ensure that food, toiletries and other essentials are available within the home.

Identify and remove potential hazards to maintain a safe living environment.

Health and Wellbeing Support children to attend medical appointments where required.

Encourage healthy routines including hygiene, nutrition, exercise and sleep.

Liaise with health professionals (e.g. GPs, nurses, therapists) in line with care plans and safeguarding procedures.

Support children in taking prescribed medication in accordance with policy and training.

Promote emotional wellbeing and resilience, particularly for children who may have experienced trauma.

Education and Community Engagement Support children in attending school, educational activities and homework routines.

Accompany children to community activities, clubs, appointments and recreational outings in line with risk assessments.

Encourage participation in positive social activities to develop confidence and life skills.

Support children to build and maintain safe relationships with family members where appropriate and agreed.

Safeguarding and Professional Practice Adhere to safeguarding policies and report any concerns immediately in line with child protection procedures.

Work in partnership with social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals and other agencies.

Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and care planning meetings.

Provide care in an inclusive and equal opportunities framework.

Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, in line with the needs of the home.

Pay - £13.5 PER HOUR

Hours - flexible

Waking nights / sleep ins will be required.
