Looking for a personal care assistant/ support worker/ driver.
Job comes with a Permanent contract.
( this is not a cash in hand job)
This is a private care job as a personal assistant, just to be clear this is not a care agency job. This means you will be working directly with the employer only.
Based in Ward End/ Bromford area, Birmingham.
Hours approximately 10 - 20 hours per week with option to do more.
Work pattern: Every Thursday & Friday plus every other weekend
(Days may be swapped around if agreed with other day staff )
Shift start time: 9.30am - 10.30am
Shift length usually 5 hours but can be discussed as some flexibility for longer or shorter shifts on certain days.
Occasionally you may be asked to work evenings to go out to music gigs, cinema etc. or cover a short call at various times of the day if you are available to help.
Pay rate : £12.50 per hour. Plus 5.6 weeks paid annual leave per year.
I’m looking for someone that loves dogs, can be upfront, honest, reliable and have a very good sense of humour and good conversation and banter. Some care work experience is preferred.
Must be able to drive an automatic vehicle and have a clean UK driving licence for a minimum of 3 years with no accidents. Ideally 25 years old or over due to insurance cost.
Job purpose
I am a 49 year old woman with Bethlem Myopathy ( a rare type of Muscular Dystrophy which causes progressive muscle weakness), this has lead to me using NIV and a powered wheelchair.
I enjoy going out walking my assistance dog, music venues for gigs, shopping, Lego and more, I also like playing games and binge watching TV series.
Main duties include-
Driving my automatic wheelchair accessible vehicle and securing me and my dog in the car.
Monitoring my breathing while we go out and fix any issues that can arise with my Non-invasive ventilator (NIV)
Manual handling with another care worker, includes using a slide sheet and hoist for personal care.
Household chores such as washing up, laundry, vacuuming/ mopping, occasionally light gardening ( weeding/planting pots)
Cooking easy meals.
Help care for my assistance dog with grooming, putting harness on and securing in the car.
Perform any duties that are of a reasonable request.
Person Specifications
You must have a clean UK driving licence for a minimum of 3 years.
Be a good confident driver to use my automatic Wheelchair Accessible vehicle.
Be a dog lover as you will be helping me to care for my assistance dog.
Enjoy walking in parks, shopping, cinema, concerts and fun days out.
To be friendly, honest and have a sense of humour as these are really important to me.
Need excellent communication skills and listening skills in English. This is important especially if an emergency situation arises. For example if my ventilator stops working, you may forget what to do as it’s a rare occurrence then you would need to listen to my instructions while I’m also trying to get as much air as I can.
Be able to work solo and as a team
Training will be given in all aspects of my care by my other staff..
Full DBS check will be carried out.
There will be a 6 month probation period included in the contract.
If you think this job could be for you please send a CV and include driving experience and dog experience.
If you don’t have a CV please include a cover letter with as much info as possible with your application or you will not be considered for the position.
Thank you :)
