Description

I am looking for a live in carer for my father who has complex care needs. He has stage 4 Parkinson's and no kidneys (he has dialysis in hospital twice a week.) He has poor mobility and requires a hoist to get out of bed and into his chair.

A typical day: It will start with making him breakfast, he usually has porridge early around 8am and a second breakfast (fry up) late morning after a nap. He also has an afternoon nap and rests a lot of the day but also likes going out on his wheelchair every other day. He also needs moving from his bed to recliner chair once or twice a day (we can get someone in to help.) You will need to make him a light lunch (sandwiches are fine) and a home cooked dinner being mindful that he can't have too much potassium. Plus, you need to ensure he takes all his medication every day. My father loves a cup of tea and cake or biscuits in the afternoon. He also needs to be washed every couple of days, and has bedpans to go to the loo. He goes to bed around 9pm. He may wake up occasionally in the night too and you will have to have a monitor in your room in case he needs you as he sleeps downstairs so you may have some disrupted sleep during the night if he needs you.

He will have frequent visits from his partner across the road, his children (my brother and I at weekends) and his brothers during the week as well as friends occasionally. During these visits you will get breaks plus you will have breaks Tuesdays and Fridays when he is in hospital for dialysis 11am - 6pm generally.

My father is a very kind, gentle and friendly man who gets on well with most people and his previous carers have all been very fond of him and keep in touch.

I am trying to work out shift partners but it could be that you want to do 2-3 weeks on and 2-3 weeks off or a month on and then a month off.

Please get in touch only if you have experience either in nursing or as a carer.
