Apiezon L is a silicone- and halogen-free ultra-high vacuum (UHV) grease specifically engineered for scientific and industrial applications.
It features an exceptionally low vapour pressure of 7 × 10⁻¹¹ Torr at 20°C, making it the highest-performing vacuum grease in the product line.
Temperature Limits:
It has a low melting point of approximately 47°C and will outgas significantly if exposed to heat.
Silicone-Free Composition:
Because it contains no silicone, it eliminates the risks of "creep" or "carry-over". This ensures clean surface boundaries for optical paths, mass spectrometry, or industrial paint and metal deposition.
Radiation Resistance:
It safely withstands high-radiation environments up to 1 MGy without decomposing, a threshold where silicone or halogenated lubricants break down.
Gettering & Solubility:
It exerts a unique "gettering" action that absorbs trace hydrocarbon impurities on glass and metal joints. When maintenance is required, it washes away cleanly using basic hydrocarbon solvents like hexane
