Camper van pull out bed/bench

I made this for our Volkswagen Caddy Maxi van. This has worked very well for our needs but I am building a different style bed to try something new. We love to keep innovating our set up. So this sturdy bed is up for grabs.

No mattress included. We used a futon mattress that we cut to size to fit.

One thing to note is that I have left fairly large gaps between the slats to allow us to somewhat access our cargo underneath the bed when we’re in there. Saving us having to put the bed away. This may not be as comfortable for some because there is more of one’s body weight resting on each slat as opposed to one with smaller gaps.

The dimensions for this bed/bench are:

183cm long
102cm Wide (in bed mode)
25cm Tall

Cargo height underneath is 23cm

I built it to fit and sit over the wheel arch of the drivers side to save space when in bench mode and keep the weight down. It’s very lightweight for what it is but very strong. We have used it a lot and it’s very easy to take in and out of the van.

I didn’t attach the sliding sections to make moving the bed and removing it from the van even simpler.

The frame can be adapted to fit other vans fairly easily and the legs can be lengthened or altered too.
