Description

We’ve had three campers in the last 8 years, and this has been our favourite. Unfortunately we need the funds for a new kitchen, so it’s sadly time to part with our lovely camper. Low mileage, new MOT, LPG tank full, ready for summer!

This might seem like an absurdly long description, but I’d rather save your time and mine by putting everything here that you might possibly want to know!

This is not a DIY bodge conversion of a knackered builder’s van, this is a low mileage example (97k) of a top-spec conversion by the very well respected WildAx converters based in Yorkshire. In fact the Aurora is still one of their most popular layouts, and costs £76,500 new today. Registered on V5 as a Motor Caravan. It’s a 4-seater design that provides two sleeping zones, separated by kitchen/bathroom area. Makes it ideal for giving some privacy/separation between family members or friends. Front bed has been ideal for our young son, using a blackout curtain means we can read and watch TV in the rear bed without disturbing him. Front bed is for 1 adult, although two small children could probably share, we have thought about using a hammock bed across the front seats for a 4th bed if needed.

Bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet, full hot water system (works on LPG or 240v electric), blown air heater (LPG), all packed into a Ducato van body, making it easy to drive and park. Underslung LPG tank, 3-way fridge and solar mean this van is as happy off-grid as on a campsite. We did a Scotland road trip two years ago and wild camped the whole time, only stopping every few days to top up water and empty the loo.

Features / equipment:

* Underslung LPG tank (new 2021) - no expensive gas bottle swaps, just fill it up at a petrol station and have months/years of use. Has an electronic gauge in the cab so you’ll never get caught without gas. The previous owner had this replaced in 2021 with receipts for this work.
* Truma LPG/240v water heater
* Truma LPG blown air heater (new 2021) - The previous owner had this installed new in 2021 - receipts for this work.
* Electrolux 3-way fridge (LPG, 12v, 240v). Works very well and gets nice and cold.
* Smev 2-burner hob
* Smev grill (enjoy toast in the morning!)
* Kitchen sink with hot/cold water
* Shower room with hot shower and,
* Built in toilet with simple cassette system (removal from outside the van)
* 2 leisure batteries for long lasting power
* Solar panel and Viktron contolller (can monitor via Bluetooth on phone) keeps the leisure batteries topped up
* 240v system for use on hook up - charges leisure batteries and powers two mains outlets - take your Nespresso machine with you.
* Full lighting system - overhead and LED spots
* TV with built-in DVD and USB input and external antennae - runs on 12v
* 2x roof lights/vent for ventilation and light in the main van and bathroom.
* 5x Superb Seitz double-glazed opening windows with combined blackout blinds and insect screens.
* Heavy duty external windscreen/cab cover to complete the blackout effect at night.
* Fully insulated keeping interior cool in summer and warm in winter.
* Fiamma electric retracting step
* Fiamma wind-out awning, great for shade and also shelter from mist/rain
* Fiamma 2x bike rack on rear

About the van body / engine:

Both are in great condition. No rusting panels, very tidy paintwork and brilliant engine. Lots of paperwork and history.

We had a previous MOT fail due to underneath corrosion. The garage thought it was probably caused by a plumbing leak (subsequently fixed). Anyway, we spent nearly £5k getting all of the necessary welding and repairs, including things that were not for the MOT but just to give us piece of mind that the body is in sound condition for years to come. It was a big investment, but we knew the quality of conversion made it worthwhile. I have the receipts detailing all this work, and you’d be welcome to speak to the garage directly. They are a very well-respected local garage and they really went above and beyond on the van.

Since the above work, the van has passed 2 MOTs first time with 2 different garages (neither were the garage that carried out the work). A few advisories, but nothing that needs attention immediately, apart from perhaps a new tire or two in the coming year. Even though the advisories are not expensive jobs when you choose to do them, I have priced the van to reflect them. Van has an extensive service history and has done only a few hundred miles since a full service (oil, brakes, new cambelt).

The engine is superb. I am not a petrol-head, but my friends who know about vans say this is the engine to have. A straightforward 2.8L diesel with no fancy electrics to fail. Pulls amazingly and this van will do 70 up hills. 5-speed manual gearbox for easy touring. It starts first time (even after months of not being used) and doesn’t smoke, has been an absolute dream engine, better than our previous VW T6 to be honest.

Not so good points:

* Some cupboard door hinges are a bit stiff
* 2 tires getting near limit and were an advisory on last MOT
* Some wear and tear on interior trim and flooring
* One wheel trim missing
* We have lost the second key! I had a quote of £75 from Timpsons to replace.

Priced to reflect the above.
