Description

1970 Volkswagen T2 early bay tin top for sale. It is the more desirable small light early bay, and was registered in January 1970.

I have owned the van for around 4 years, but I am now selling due to loss of storage.

It is in running and driving condition, but would benefit from a spring service / light recommission. In particular, the brakes will need adjustment having been sat for the winter.

The engine is a 1600 AB code, which runs well. It has a larger carb installed and the van is surprisingly fast.

In my ownership it has had 4 new tyres, a new fuse box, and various maintenance work as needed.

The interior is a blank canvas, but it does have an unused rusty lee rock and roll bed installed so would be a good base for a camper / day van conversion.

The exterior has been painted in a desert sand colour satin paint. Depending on your plans for the van, this could be easily added to or changed, or in my view it would be a decent candidate for a respray/restoration.

It is now 56 years old so (particularly if you decide to do a larger scale restoration rather than keep it on the road as a rolling project), there will be ongoing rust repair work required. However, in my view there is nothing out of the ordinary considering its age and the fact it hasn’t been the subject of a full restoration.

I do have some spares which will come with the van including a chrome alternator and a replacement chrome hubcap for the one that’s missing in the photos.

Buyer to collect from Romsey, Hampshire and pay cash or bank transfer on collection. It is up to the buyer whether they wish to drive it (noting it does need a spring service and brake adjustment) or to have it transported.
