Description
This is a rare and unique album of Player's Coronation Series of Cigarette Cards.
It is a once-only commemorative issue, issued by John Player and Sons at 3d, (three old pence).
Printed in grey, outer, and cream/off-white pages, the album is adorned with delicate designs and artwork of Royal scenes, characters and landmark locations.
There is also an ongoing 'commentary' of the history of King George VI's ascension to the throne, the story of the lines of ascension, the various Royal titles given, the Archbishops, Yeomen of the Guard, Noble Orders, ceremonial dress, the Officers, Cavalry and more.
This is all complemented by the brightly coloured 'cigarette cards', depicting His Majesty King George VI and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the aforementioned nobles, members of the Royal household and related associates.
This brilliant keepsake consists of 24 pages, measures 10 ins x 8 ins and is in amazingly good condition for it's age! There doesn't appear to be any foxing and the pages/cover only show the faintest age tanning (- which isn't particularly noticeable due to the shades of colour of the cover and pages). The staples in the centre pages also show some signs of rust, but easily remedied!
Please refer to the photos for details, of which I tried to obtain the most accurate colours, shades, appearance and detail.
