Description

A heart-wrenching true story which chronicles a year of play therapy sessions with a little boy names Dibs which eventually helped to release him from his feelings of loneliness, fear and rage which were engulfing him. Eventually, as detailed in the prologue of this book (printed above) this loving, enchanting little person emerges with a positive sense of self-hood achieved through the patience, experience and understanding of his therapist. As Ms. Axline engages and gains a rapport with Dibs through the play therapy, 'his personality gradually unfolds, and enhances the lives of others who were priveleged to know him'. My wife personally came across this book, as well as some others, when she started her career as a teaching assistant in 1999, working with children with special needs in mainstream education. She says - 'Dibs' story never left me - I just wanted to hug this little boy, and as I immersed myself in his story, which often brought a tear to my eye, his intellect and character started to shine through and the ending of the story brings such joy and is inspirational.' We own two copies of this book, the first is currently on loan to a friend.
