ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām is a renowned and authentic compilation of legal prophetic traditions upon which jurists have based their rulings. The book contains hadiths agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, or by one of them. This edition provides precise translations, titles for the hadiths, and explanations of difficult Arabic terms, along with a comprehensive commentary that reflects the views of major scholars on various legal issues.

The commentary draws from over twenty works on ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām, fifteen on Bulūgh al-Marām, and the principal commentaries on the six canonical hadith collections, as well as classical books of Islamic law.

Its purpose is to study Islamic jurisprudence directly from its textual proofs, clarifying the scholarly methodology used to derive rulings and highlighting the moral lessons within each hadith. The work includes detailed explanations, variant narrations, vocabulary notes, narrator biographies, and juristic analyses based on the principles and maxims of fiqh.

Dr. Mohammad Alrabawan holds a PhD and MA in Hadith Sciences and a BA in Islamic Studies from al-Azhar University. He has taught at Taibah University (KSA) and currently serves as a professor at al-Azhar University.
