2008 BMW 320d E91 Touring – £1,200

153,755 miles (this will go up as car is in use)

The car is currently MOT'd until November and is in daily use. It starts, drives and stops perfectly well.

The good stuff:

The car has a very comprehensive and detailed service history. The previous owner was particularly careful about maintenance, with services often only around 5,000 miles apart and good-quality oil and parts consistently used.

The engine is completely dry with no oil or coolant leaks and pulls very well through all the gears. The gearbox is also good, with a tight, positive gear change and none of the loose/wobbly gearstick feel that some older cars develop.

Other good points:

* Three previous owners
* Extremely economical - averaging 54mpg but will easily do 60+ on a run
* Cruise control
* Dual-zone climate control
* Air conditioning blows nice and cold
* Four quality-brand tyres – Michelin rear and Goodyear front
* Front tyres have plenty of life remaining; rears will need replacing fairly soon
* Discs and pads all round are in good condition and the brakes are very good
* Original rear luggage cover is present
* Split-opening rear tailgate/glass works correctly
* Useful fitted boot liner
* Bluetooth radio transmitter for connecting a phone
* MagSafe dashboard phone holder


Faults / work required

I want to be completely upfront about these so that anyone coming to see the car knows exactly what they're looking at.

My mechanic has inspected the underside and found corrosion around the rear subframe. His view is that it will require welding/repair before the next MOT in November.

The suspension also requires some work, specifically replacement control arms and a few bushes. The car drives perfectly well but is rattly over bumps and potholes (of which there are many!).


* Front headlights are cloudy. However, I have a very good-condition pair of genuine BMW halogen headlights with angel eyes to replace them, which will be included with the car.
* Rear wiper isn't working. The rear washer works normally, so it may be the motor or possibly a broken wire. I haven't investigated it.
* Dashboard currently displays a flat-tyre warning despite the tyres not being flat. I'll try to reset this before sale.
* Handbrake needs adjustment as it currently doesn't hold the car particularly well.
* Only one key.
* Alloy wheels are structurally sound but cosmetically fairly scabby.

I also have a separate set of M Sport alloy wheels which I'm selling separately. I may be willing to agree a deal with someone buying the car who also wants those.

The car was previously suffering with the usual BMW wheel arch rust bubbling, it wasn't bad but I wanted to treat it before it got any worse. So I sanded the arches back, treated all the rust, primed, painted etc. So there is now no rust on the body - however, I'm not a body shop, so if you're bothered about it looking showroom condition, you could redo the painting and improve it, I was just bothered about preventing any body rust.

Overall

This is not being advertised as a fault-free £1,200 BMW, and I'm not trying to hide the reason it's cheap.

It is a running, driving and usable E91 with MOT until November, an unusually comprehensive service history, a very healthy engine and gearbox, good brakes, quality tyres and plenty of useful equipment. However, it needs suspension work and, importantly, welding/corrosion repairs before its next MOT.

I've tried to describe everything I know about the car so there are no surprises when someone comes to view it. Inspection and test drive welcome.
