Description

Reluctantly spares or repair status as I've run out of cash / time and have bought something else and this is in the way.

Bought it in the winter for a fix up and summer tour, I've done the expensive jobs but the electronics have beaten me.

Good bits

Clearly spent most of it's life in a garage, very little corrosion and not just for it's age either, even the staples under the seat are still shiny.

The front pivot bearings were worn, these have been replaced with new, also the front wishbone I replaced as the original had snapped axle bolts in it, I've still got it to show this isn't a crash damaged bike.

Has new oil, filter, air filter, final drive oil, coolant and spark plugs fitted

New fuel strip fitted, receipt for £331

New front wheel bearings

Engine pulls very well, all the gears engage well, electric screen etc works well (linkage cleaned and lubed while I had it apart)



Bad bits

Bought with failed ABS pump (5DF0 and 5DF1), this is not the servo assisted model so this has no impact on braking power, the brakes are very good, all pistons move freely, callipers cleaned. If you look at the MOT history the pump failed in 2017 and passed a few MoTs since.

While diagnosing I made the mistake of using Motoscan app to try and turn the ABS pump on and off again. It turned off and won't turn back on again, this means

- speedo needle fluctuates
- no cruise control
- no range / on board computer usefulness
- it now racks up 1 mile on the odo for about every 3 seconds of riding, this means the actual mileage is more like 28,200 rather than the 31,108 it's currently showing because everything that needs wheel speed gets that info from the ABS unit and the ECU thinks it's switched off - very annoying
- ODO flashes, because the ECU has lost track of the mileage due to the above

I don't know whether taking the ABS pump out and getting the brushes replaced (about £250 including shipping there and back, found a guy to do it, I'll give you his number), reinstalling and then turning the unit back on in the ECU will fix this but everything I've read so far says it will - I just can't spend anymore money on this.

From cold if you load / slip the clutch you'll hear a squeak out of it but not when it's warmed up

Total spent is £1,550 buying the bike and a further £1,034 on parts and fixing, time to let someone else have a go and finish it up.

Bike is MOT'ed and perfectly ridable, but if you have a 50 mile ride home you'll put about 600 miles on it. Whether this can be flashed back from the ECU I don't know. TomTom and mount not included.
