Description
Selling our lovely fully original 1982 Austin Ambassador with only 30240 miles from new and zero previous owners. It is in excellent rust free condition and must be one of the last few or the last original Ambassadors that you could be the second owner of. It comes fully recommissioned by the renown BL specialist 'Mead Automotive' and was awarded at the yearly BL rally the Highly commended certificate because of its wonderful originality and low miles which was what the judges loved about the car.
I will go through the car in this description bit by bit.
History
Bought new by Mr. R. from Lathams of Leicester in 1982 and ordered in Ermine beige with paprika interior. Mr R loved the car so much he only used the Austin in good weather buying a Citroen to use to preserve his beloved Austin. Kept in a warm and dry garage the car was always maintained and collected from the house and delivered back serviced and Mot'd every year until Mr. R sadly passed away. The car then stood still in the garage until we bought it early this year from Mr R's wife and daughter who were really sad to see the car go. Mr R kept every MOT and tax disc from new, the original receipt of purchase and various other documents. It even has the original dealer plates and rear window sticker from the supplying dealer matching the sale receipt!
Recommissioning
The Austin was checked over and was actually in excellent order, after servicing, new timing and auxiliary belt, 5 new tyres, new fuel lines including the inside tank pipes, spark plugs, points, clutch slave cylinder rubbers, wipers, filters, oils, brake fluid, brakes, suspension pump up and check and so on she has become an excellent running and driving car, smooth, quiet and a joy to driving with excellent handling too.
Mechanics
The super low genuine mileage if just 30000 miles shows, in how well the car sounds and drives. Everything works as it should, the steering is tight, good brakes, lovely clutch, excellent suspension sitting perfectly, always starts perfectly, changes gear well, temperature sits perfect in traffic or on a run and i'd go anywhere in it.
After much expense and having been fully serviced by Mead Automotive the specialists in British Leyland cars of the UK its now ready to be used. We have been to Birmingham a few times and recently to the BL Rally at Milton Keynes where there were only two other Ambassadors there with the club. We met some of the other Ambassador club members who were lovely and the club chairman who commented on how good our was!
New timing Belt, Alternator belt, points, plugs, wipers, oil, oil filters, 5 new tyres, New fuel lines and filter, brake parts, and more.
Chassis
Simply excellent still with its original BL factory Black underseal. No rust or rot. Never been welded. Lovely clean engine bay with no rust.
Bodywork
Excellent rust free condition and fully original with only marks and wear to expect from 44 years of age. There is a mark from storage on the passenger wing but I feel it should not be repainted as then its not fully original. Both rear stone chip protectors have been knocked off in its life and stuck back on by Mr R! (just part of its life!) Passenger indicator has a small bit missing the size of a 50p coin so it just needs a new lens.
Interior
A lovely comfy place to be, no rips or tears. The Paprika interior really is a lovely colour. It has the typical 1980's sag where the cloth becomes slightly loose from the foam which all cars of this age suffer from even with low miles. Everything works and it has a lovely tape player which I have really been enjoying using with my old tapes, a real 80's timewarp!! Excellent unmarked headlining.
No wear on carpets or pedals etc.
Summary
A really rare opportunity to by a zero previous owner car with low mileage and fully original. It should be in a museum really. We are only selling because we have a Landcrab and use that more.
I bought it because my parents had them new when I was a child so I fell in love with this car when I saw how good it was. You couldn't restore one for this price which most of them need now.
I did not register the car in my name as when we bought it the original owner could not find the V5 so when we got it back from the garage and then decided not to keep it I left it, so not to put another name in the log book so someone who really wants the car will be able to be the second owner!
You are welcome to view and check the car etc, we are near Junction 15 on the M1 in Northampton.
