Description
Audi 100 turbo, 2226 cc, 5 cylinder, MC2 engine. This car is rare. There are no other Audi 100 turbo cars with a manual gearbox on the road in the UK.
I acquired a newer model for everyday use. Having a part time job, I was compelled let go of this rare beautiful piece of classic engineering.
This car was manufactured with an engine very similar to the Audi Quattro turbo, but it's not an Audi Quattro turbo.
This car has an aerodynamic shape with a drag co-efficient (Cd) of 0. 30 and is a perfect slab cruiser with exceptionally good mpg figures. Remember the Audi marketing slogan which typifies this car 'Vorsprung Durch technik'. The engine is the 5 cylinder turbo, 2226 litre MC 2 engine, one of the first with an engine management system. But it's different, because it doesn't need a laptop computer to help determine the faults. It communicates with the mechanic via a look-up code to determine the fault. Thereby saving the cost of expensive test equipment and simplifying the fault analysis. This technique bridges the gap between older simpler cars and the modern computerized cars.
The Audi 100 turbo, as stated previously, bridges the gap between older simpler cars and modern cars. With its low Cd (wind drag), light weight body, turbo charged engine giving high performance and low fuel consumption in a large saloon equalling today's executive cars. It has a beauty and road presence which is the reason why I have kept this car for so long and be • rud• in • I havi to let it
The car body is good, but has had a few small indents during it's life and storage, nothing which cannot be easily reworked. The body as far as I can see is rust free, typical of Audi's from that period. There are also slight scratches on the bonnet and side of the body, again nothing serious, but just requires rework.
The interior is good, but the black soft touch paint has softened and become sticky as per other cars of the age. The interior headlining drooped as per other cars of the age and a temporary fix has lifted it back into place. The windscreen has incurred stone chip marks which have been repaired and passed the MOT requirements.
I'm including several used spare parts in the sale; left and right headlights, left and right front indicators lights, ignition cable loom, distributor cap, engine mounts, wiper arms, windscreen washer reservoir and engine cooling system expansion tank. I have gathered these parts for use should the originals fail. There are many other parts to include in the sale if they are wanted. Lots of work have been done to it recently. Some of them as follows - head gasket, valve stem seals, fuel distributor, exhaust, brakes, radiator and many more new parts.
The second owner has bought the car in October 1993 and kept it until 2024. And have used it for long distance motorway commutes. No city stop start driving, just constant speed and minimal wear and tear driving.
The car had been off the road since 2009 and back in 2025 and stored mainly in a dry garage and to a lesser extent on the drive in front of the house.
It has been meticulously maintained the car with detailed notes going back to 2001. Haynes manual's (907, 1st and 3rd editions) has been used and print outs of technical information from internet sources, SJM Auto-Technik and The UK Quattro Network, all the books and my notes are included in the sale.
The gearbox has been reconditioned and has covered only few hundred miles since rebuild. The rebuild was undertaken by a specialist gearbox mechanic.
Many 5 cylinder turbo engines have a common fault with the original exhaust manifolds cracking leading to exhaust pressure loss to the turbo, this was replaced with a Ur-quattro manifold supplied by Dialynx (Swindon).
It is an unique opportunity to acquire a featured, ready to drive Audi 100. It has done few miles after the last MOT.
