Description
I am looking for sitters for private studio work in London. I paint from life, and I want people who understand that sitting is not performance, not vanity, and not background decoration, but a real part of the making of a picture.
The work is slow, direct, and unsentimental: preparatory drawings, tonal studies, and paintings for a series of ambitious projects in progress... touching on different themes, including biblical, mythological, allegorical, and studies of people as they are, not as they pretend to be. Some sessions are about form, some about expression, some simply about presence.
I am interested in what drives human behaviour, the lively passions of the body and soul, obsession, desire, power, relationships... character, not polish. A strong face, a distinctive body, dignity, awkwardness, intelligence, reserve, warmth etc... all of these matter more than experience.
If you can sit with patience and are prepared to be looked at honestly, you are likely to be useful to the work.
Sessions are usually 1–2 times a week, with breaks, tea, and a fair arrangement for time and travel. If you are interested, send a recent photograph and a few words about yourself.
Keep it brief, but honest.
