One of several items acquired at a brocante in Dijon, Burgundy, we have used this both as an egg store in our kitchen and as a rustic decorative French kitchenalia display and herb planter.
It’s a sturdy wire chicken shaped egg basket dating to the early mid century 1940s.
Not to be confused with flimsy modern ones, this is hand made in a strong wirework or filigree manner with a distinct hen shape and wire handles in the form of wings.
Now worn but very sound with an attractive patina this is still functional as intended and also makes a great planter, fruit bowl or decorative piece of vintage French kitchenalia.
*
In good, sound, vintage condition with wear, rusted areas and staining - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
The wire surfaces are worn but very sound with an attractive patina - see photos.
There is no serious corrosion or through perforation and the whole is structurally sound.
Stands well.
The wing handles are present and in a sound condition flexing stiffly up or down as required.
The bottom has wear and staining from use but is sound.
I can find no maker’s mark.
