Description
A slipware cradle, of rectangular form, with scalloped bonnet, the body decorated with brown and yellow slip, classic tulips and decorated with; “WELCOME SWEET BABE”.
Exceptional condition, with minor fritting, no repairs or restoration, just a firing crack to the front “SWEET” panel. Age uncertain.
6 inches long, 4 inches wide and 5 inches tall.

Cradles were symbols of fertility and often gifted at weddings or Christenings and were a popular feature from the 17th century to the mid 19th century in England.
Tulips were classic late 17th century designs. Variations were produced at numerous potteries, often bearing initials and sometimes dates. This rare example is most probably Staffordshire.cash on collection from Poole
