Reduced
An African carved hardwood elephant stool dating from the early 20th Century. It is of traditional form made from a single block of wood with a crescent shaped seat above a carved elephant standing on a flat base.
We believe this stool was made by the Ashanti Tribe in Ghana, West Africa where the elephant represents the power of the king who traditionally would have been the only person allowed to commission such a stool.
It is in good condition for its age. There are few signs of age and a small split in the base on one side but nothing which detracts from this fine example.
