Antique Spanish Baby Jesus in a Manger, Nativity Scene by prestigious Spanish maker, DIMOSA

A truly beautiful, timeless, high quality, collectible, antique baby Jesus in a Manger/Nativity Scene. Hand made and hand painted by the prestigious long gone Spanish religious statue maker DIMOSA (Diosas y Mosaicos S.A) based in Olot, Cataluña, Spain who specialised in Niños Jesús, Saints and Nativity figures.

I purchased this in the 1980’s from a specialist religious shop in northern Spain that’s been around since 1910. The statue is made of plaster and porcelain with glass eyes and was likely made between 1945 - 1965.

It’s a really beautiful, rare to find statue with original features and in original manger. The figurine is in soft warm pastel flesh tones, with glass eyes and realistic impression. It has a golden coloured metallic halo and sits in a wooden manger with original straw. It has the DIMOSA stamp on the back (see photos).

It’s in pristine condition as it has been well cared for. There are no chips, cracks or damage. The only thing to point out is on the back there are light markings which were there when we purchased it - could possibly be from workshop or from resting on straw (see photos). Other than that it is as good as new.

Approximate Measurements: FIGURINE length (head to toe) is 11 inches/28cm (32cm with halo) and MANGER length = 40cm Width = 28 cm at widest point.

It’s a rare piece as they are no longer made (DIMOSA no longer exists) and it’s especially rare to find one in such immaculate condition. There are not many on the market, those that I’ve seen have damage or are new and made with wood pulp in Italy.

Would make a wonderful gift, or piece to be placed in a Bethlehem or to decorate the house for Christmas. Ideal for personal usage, collectors or Catholic Churches.

We are looking to sell as we are down sizing and it’s a shame to see it kept hidden away in a box.
