ANTIQUE FRENCH CAST IRON FLAT IRON, SAD IRON, A.M EXTRA FORT No4 - 1800s

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

This is part of a collection we used as decorative display items, bookends, and doorstops but is actually a flat iron or sad iron from the late 1800s.
A heavy iron that’s apparently a rare collectible, it’s marked A.M EXTRA FORT (EXTRA STRONG) N 4.
This would have probably originally been used to press military or police uniforms.

In good, sound, antique condition with rusting, wear and knocks but no damage or cracks - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
This is worn with some rust but clean and without serious corrosion - see photos.
The handle is secure.
Marked as described above.
