Antique Brass Oil Lamp with Glass Shade. Circa late 1800-1920

Description

Antique French "Lampe-Olympe", which is a portable brass mineral spirit (gasoline/petrol) lamp. Late 1800s to early 1920s.
In Very Good Condition, Wick is present and all working.
The design is heavily inspired by the famous Lampe Pigeon invented by Charles Pigeon in the late 19th century. When the initial safety patents lapsed, competitor brands like Olympe emerged. The Engraving: The French text engraved on the body functions as a security warning and authenticity certificate. It translates roughly to: "Genuine Olympe Lamp. Guaranteed non-explosive with mineral spirit. Every genuine Olympe lamp must bear five rings engraved on the body as a trademark, and two rings stamped on the burner at the top." The Logo: The five interlocking rings at the bottom of the script are a nod to its brand name "Olympe" (Olympus). Though the engraving states the brand's origin date of 1860, these specific lamps were generally produced between the late 1800s to the 1920s.
